LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Dear Colleague,

In the most recent edition of Embedded Vision Insights, I mentioned that the first three videos from last month's Embedded Vision Summit had just been published to the Alliance website. Over the past two weeks, I've been busy posting additional content, including a market analysis presentation from the next-day Embedded Vision Alliance Member Summit. So here's an update.

As of today, nearly six hours' worth of new, publicly-accessible videos spanning a diversity of embedded vision hardware, software and other topics are now online. This translates to more than a day's worth of cumulative video content on the Alliance website. Links to several of the new videos can be found below. More than an hour's worth of additional Summit content should appear soon. And if you're an Alliance company representative who would like a tutorial on embedded vision and the Alliance opportunity, please let me know and I'll send you a private link to last month's "Boot Camp" presentation.

We're already hard at work on the next Embedded Vision Alliance Member Summit, currently scheduled for Tuesday, December 11 in Austin, Texas. And speaking of Austin, the 2012 edition of the IMS Research Touch Gesture Motion conference will be (not coincidentally) held the subsequent two days in the same city, at the Barton Creek Resort. If you're interested in attending, use discount code EVA10 when registering, for a 10% discount off the full delegate price. And if you're an Alliance company representative who's interested in attending, drop me an email for your particular code and discount percentage.

Also mentioned in a recent Embedded Vision Insights newsletter was the announcement that Aptina Imaging had joined the Alliance. A just-published news writeup provides more details on Aptina and its embedded vision activities and aspirations. Stay tuned for coming-soon equivalent coverage on the Alliance's newest (and 26th) member, LSI (which some of you may better recognize by its former name, LSI Logic). Welcome, LSI, to the Embedded Vision Alliance!

I'll close with the reminder that I always welcome correspondence from any newsletter recipient or website visitor, with your feedback on how the Alliance can do a better job of servicing your needs. Thanks as always for your support of the Embedded Vision Alliance, and for your interest in and contributions to embedded vision technologies, products and applications.

ROI Makes ANPR (Automatic Number Plate Recognition) An Easy Sell
Difficult economic times have caused ANPR suppliers to switch their focus, placing greater emphasis on applications that generate a return on investment (ROI). IMS Research forecasts the global market for Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) to reach $350.4 million by the end of 2012, growth of 6.9 percent from the previous year. Thanks to a strong ROI, parking time management has outperformed many of the other ANPR applications of late. More

Brazil’s Network Video Surveillance Market Aims to Catch Up
In its recently published, second edition report on the Latin American video surveillance equipment market, IMS Research estimates that the analogue equipment market accounted for nearly 60 percent of total video surveillance equipment revenues in 2011. One of the key reasons for this is that Brazil is slightly behind the curve in the transition from analogue to network video surveillance, with its analogue market representing a larger proportion of its total video surveillance equipment market than in any other region in Latin America.
