25 July 2017 – Movidius’ Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit (VPU) technology, known for its image signal processing and computer vision capabilities with high energy efficiency, was selected by Motorola Mobility to power their newest Moto Mod: the 360 Camera.
Moto Mods are unique modular accessories for Motorola smartphones that bring advanced functionality beyond traditional smartphone features. Motorola’s newest Moto Mod brings users the ability to live stream 360⁰ videos while preserving battery life.
Motorola was able to deliver 360⁰ Video Capture including complete image processing, de-warping of fisheye images and image stitching, all in a sleek form factor thanks to the ultra-low power Myriad 2 Vision Processing Unit. Myriad 2 features a high-throughput onboard Image Signal Processor (ISP) with native support for up to 600 Mpixels per second of pixel processing power. Myriad 2 enables high image quality while at the same time offering a long battery life thanks to on-device image stitching of multiple high resolution video feeds to create a cohesive VR experience in real time at low power.
“Enabling consumer content-creation for VR is one of the most exciting frontiers of consumer technology today” said Remi El-Ouazzane, VP Intel New Technology Group and GM of Movidius. “We are proud to supply a power-efficient way for consumers to share their own high-quality VR video content, and we are tremendously excited to see a complete on-device VR content creation solution powered by Movidius in the form of the 360 Camera Moto Mod that users can simply clip on to start capturing and publishing VR video”.
