Basler AG introduces cell biology, lab automation and microscopy professionals to high-performance cameras with modern CMOS sensor technology. With their high frame rates, high image quality and strong sensitivity, modern CMOS sensors will soon replace discontinued CCD sensors in medical devices.

Philadelphia, December 1, 2017 – Basler Inc., the US subsidiary of camera manufacturer Basler AG, exhibits at the 2017 ASCB | EMBO Meeting in Philadelphia. The joint annual conference of the American Society for Cell Biology (ASCB) and the European Molecular Biology Organization (EMBO) will take place in the Pennsylvania Convention Center, from December 3 till December 5, 2017.

Basler will showcase the newest CMOS cameras with the Sony STARVIS and the Sony PREGIUS sensors, the Basler Microscopy Software 2.0 with fluorescence color preset, the Basler Video Recording Software and the Basler Lenses.

Most importantly, Basler's engineers will advise the guests on the best transition approach from CCD to CMOS sensor technology.

"The medical and life sciences industry will switch from CCD to CMOS in the next two-three years," says Jacob Vingless, Lead Applications Engineer at Basler, Inc. "Sony, the major manufacturer of CCD sensors, is discontinuing their production. Also, the newest CMOS sensors show better performance in dark noise and dynamic range than the current CCD sensors".

The best example is the Basler ace L with the newest generation of Sony Pregius sensors (IMX253, IMX255, IMX267, IMX304). The 12 models provide 9 and 12 megapixels resolutions, up to 42 fps frame rates, more than 70 dB dynamic range and high quantum efficiency. Basler’s engineers prepared a live demonstration with the ace L with the IMX253 sensor and a 1" lens.

Another breakthrough is Basler ace U camera with the innovative back-illuminated Sony STARVIS sensors (IMX178, IMX226) which stand out with its high light sensitivity, low dark noise and high quantum efficiency. The eight models are a great fit for manual light or fluorescence microscopy. A Microscopy ace 12.2 MP with a Sony STARVIS sensor will be part of a live demonstration at the booth.

The booth guests will experience the new Basler Video Recording Software which allows recording high-speed videos and video time-lapse sequences. This software captures slow-motion videos for fast-moving objects which is useful for sperm analysis and cell transportation processes monitoring.

In addition, Basler Lenses with 1/2.5" and 2/3" image circles and the 1” TS MP lens series are displayed together with the corresponding cameras.

The Basler booth number is 1010.
