Woodside Capital Partners (WCP) is pleased to release our Computer Vision Snapshot for Q4 2023, authored by Managing Partner Rudy Burger, and by senior analyst Akhilesh Shridar.
Global M&A
Many CV-for-retail solutions find accretive applications in Industrial settings.
Lenskart acquires TangoEye, a computer and machine vision platform that helps support both retail and industrial optimization. On the retail front, Tango Eye uses CCTV footage to provide store analytics on retention, engagement, and path placement. In the manufacturing center, TangoEye uses CCTV footage to make safety and inspection decisions. Both use-cases are expected to significantly bolster Lenskart’s moat in the Indian glasses market.
Computing on the Edge
As computer vision and machine vision models intake more information and as cloud costs increase, efficient processing on the edge before sending troves of data to the warehouse becomes a key strategy for industrial and commercial CV applications, leveraging advancements in RISC-V and related parallel processing hardware.
Increased Flexibility
New-age platforms such as Viso.AI provide low/no-code end-to-end platform, empowering companies to effortlessly create and customize their computer vision models, streamlining processes from data annotation to deployment, and uniquely managing highly complex applications at scale.
Advancements in Chip Hardware
Researchers from Tsinghua University, China, have developed an all-analog photoelectronic chip, named ACCEL, that seamlessly combines optical and electronic computing, overcoming the time and energy limitations of analog-to-digital conversion in traditional neural network implementations.
Key Players to Watch by End-Vertical
-
- Ag Tech: Voxel51 is an open-source project that leverages FiftyOne’s API and SDK to provides an analytics platform for the agricultural space, focusing on how to leverage computer vision to optimize workflows and resources
- Industrial and Manufacturing: Viso.AI focuses on low-code/no-code API deployment for computer vision models focused on industrial applications
- Health-Tech: ThinkSono offers a robust computer aided diagnostic platform for deep vein thrombosis and related cardiovascular issues
- Commodity LVMs: Landing AI’s domain specific out-of-the-box large vision models (LVMs) don’t require extensive labelled images – which enables deep specialization for a CV model with a low training cost
