Sony’s High-resolution, High-speed Global Shutter Area Sensors IMX901 and IMX902 are Now Available

FRAMOS now offers the option to pre-order Sony’s wide image size 6k/8k horizontal sensors

Munich/Nuremberg, Bavaria, Germany – February 25th, 2025 – After Sony announced its two new high-speed global shutter area sensors, IMX901 and IMX902, with a wide image format and 8K horizontal resolution last summer and delivered the first engineering samples, both sensors can now finally be ordered for mass production from FRAMOS. The monochrome versions of the sensors will be available in April, and the color versions will be available in July 2025. The IMX901 has an effective resolution of 16.41 megapixels, while the IMX902 has a resolution of 12.38 megapixels.

Both sensors are based on the innovative Pregius S-Technology and come with a C-mount. Particularly noteworthy are both the speed of up to 134 frames per second at 10-bit image depth and also the high dynamic range, which allows for precise imaging in difficult, rapidly changing lighting conditions. The large amounts of data generated in the process are easily exchanged thanks to support for the fast SLVS-EC interface. In addition, MIPI-D-Phy and SLVS are also supported. Both sensors are designed to monitor large areas in which fast-moving objects need to be captured sharply and without rolling shutter artifacts, and where otherwise, several sensors would have to be used. This consolidation offers industrial customers cost advantages at an extremely high image quality. Areas of application can be found primarily in barcode scanning, 3D inspection, in-line and product inspection, and visual inspections of shelves, boards, conveyor belts, and conveyor systems.

“We have received two great new high-speed global shutter sensors from Sony that will be very popular with camera and device manufacturers. They can be used to produce cost-efficient yet high-quality camera systems that can be used in factory automation, among other things,” says Sibel Yorulmaz-Cokugur, Strategic Partner Manager at FRAMOS.
