June 11, 2019 – The camera manufacturer Basler expands its portfolio with camera modules and a development kit with BCON for MIPI interface. The innovative product concept of the dart BCON for MIPI Development Kit with the processor from Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. (Qualcomm APQ8096SG) won the Embedded Award in the Embedded Vision category at this year's Embedded World Conference in Nuremberg, Germany.

The BCON for MIPI interface combines the complex and powerful MIPI technology with proven standards and the convenient features of the Machine Vision world. This innovative approach utilizes the powerful Qualcomm Spectra™ ISP, significantly reducing the overall processor load of the system and freeing up more computing power for the actual application.

In addition to the dart camera module with 5 megapixel resolution and 60 fps based on ON Semiconductor’s AR0521 sensor, Basler also supplies the appropriate driver package for controlling the sensor and image acquisition via the MIPI CSI-2 interface. Users get an industrial-grade, robust embedded vision system with outstanding image quality and easy integration.

The dart BCON for MIPI Development Kit is a modular system that makes it possible to evaluate the Basler dart BCON for MIPI camera modules and easily design them into an embedded vision system. The dart BCON for MIPI camera modules use Qualcomm Spectra ISP on a Linux operating system (Linaro).

"Our goal is to create the optimal embedded vision solution for our customers. The innovative product concept of the dart BCON for MIPI Development Kit utilizes the powerful Qualcomm Technologies processor to enable our customers to achieve lean systems without compromising image quality," explains Gerrit Fischer, Head of Product Market Management at Basler. "This makes the dart BCON for MIPI the ideal camera for demanding embedded vision systems and IoT applications.

"Vision-based embedded applications are a key area in the Internet of Things,” said Jeffery Torrance, vice president, business development, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc. “With ever-increasing demands on space, cost and computing power, these applications demand the best in innovative technologies. Qualcomm Technologies is proud to work with Basler AG to enable their award-winning embedded products."
